Baby on the way and you’re planning to take maternity leave from work ? Here’s some good news for you!
The all new Maternity Benefit Act has been passed by the Parliament and here’s why it calls for celebrations!
- The bill increases the duration of paid maternity leave for women working in the organised sector from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. This entitlement will be for the first two children. For the third child, the entitlement will continue to be 12 weeks.
- The bill provides for 12 weeks of maternity leave to a woman who legally adopts a child under three months of age and a commissioning mother (defined as a biological mother) who uses her egg to have a surrogate child.
- Companies that have over 50 employees will need to provide creche facilities within the premise or within 500 meters from their premise. It permits moms to make four visits during the day to the creche.
- The bill has also made a provision under which an employer can permit a woman to work from home, if the nature of work assigned permits her to do so. This option can be availed of, after the period of maternity leave, for a duration that is mutually decided by the employer and the woman.
Mom to be ? No more bidding goodbye to your career soon after your maternity break. The all new Maternity Bill Act has all the benefits for you to strike a perfect work-baby balance!
