‘KEEP THE FAITH’:This photo perfectly illustrates a determined couple’s IVF journey

IVF - Viral

A Texas couple is finally expecting not just one, but two babies, after struggling with infertility for two years.

Lauren Walker shared her story, with a moving photo featuring two onesies and 452 needles used for her In-Vitro Fertilization treatments in a photo that has since gone viral on Facebook.

The Hard Road

“We prayed for 953 days…452 Needles, 1000’s of tears, 1 corrective surgery, 4 clomid/letrozole attempts, 2 IVF rounds, 3 failed transfers and & 1 Amazing GOD,” Lauren explained alongside her syringe-strewn post.

The couple, who have been having trouble conceiving from the get-go, eventually made the decision to undergo IVF treatment in the hope of starting a family, but sadly they faced unrelenting challenges. Lauren miscarried multiple implanted embryos on three different occasions.

Relentless challenge

To say the pair were heartbroken is an understatement.

“It’s every mother’s job to be able to protect their children and keep them safe, and every time they kept putting them inside me I couldn’t do it,”

Their quest to have a family also took a hefty financial toll. Lauren said they spent $30 000 US trying to get pregnant via IVF.

In it together

Still, they were determined to put their relationship ahead of all else, and get through their grief and disappointment together, leaning heavily on their faith.

“We have heard stories of how going through infertility can really cause wear and tear in a marriage. [We decided] we come first. We need to make sure we are always taking care of each other first and foremost.”

The devastated couple picked up and moved house, took out a $13 000 US loan and secretly began trying for a baby once more, again via IVF.

This time their efforts had a much happier ending. A week before Christmas they surprised their family with a bow-adorned positive pregnancy test and the exciting news that they were expecting twins.

“It didn’t break me”

In hindsight, Lauren says she’s grateful for the way everything played out, because it’s helped her to become a stronger, steadier person.

“Some days I look back and I can’t believe I made it. No, I don’t mean that as in I finally got pregnant. I mean, I MADE it. I’m stronger. It didn’t break me. The prize is not these twins. The prize is discovering new found faith. The GIFT is these twins. I didn’t know I was capable of such strength and fight.”

She credits Garyt’s (her husband) unwavering support with getting her through her darkest hours.

“The days I slipped (and oh, there were many) and thought I couldn’t go on, my husband was there to catch me and prevent me from falling. Garyt Walker, you are the most patient, wise, and steadfast person to ever walk this earth. You truly have walked every step of the way by my side,” Lauren posted.

Twins Duke and Diana Walker are due in August 2017, the first grandchildren in Lauren’s family.

“Life happens the way that it’s supposed to happen,” the triumphant mum-to-be philosophised.
