Samsung has developed an app called Safety Screen, which forces users, especially young children, to hold their mobile devices at an ideal viewing distance from their eyes. The free app, available on Android only, runs in the background and uses facial recognition software to determine when a smartphone or tablet user is holding their device too close to their face.
When this happens, a “friendly” animation (pictured on the right) pops up and the screen is shut down. The screen comes back on again when the device is returned to the minimum recommended safe distance, which is around 25cm, but varies depending on the size of the screen being observed.
If your worried about your kids deactivating the app, fear not! You can set a password to prevent your children from deactivating the app.
